Evaluation Methods and Class Management: to receive credit for this course you must finish all work with a D or better, turn your work in on time, and in the proper format, adhere to school attendance policies, and participate regularly in class.

Students may not have any more than four unexcused absences per nine weeks and no more than four tardies (excused and unexcused) per semester. Four unexcused absences in one month or ten in one year constitutes a “habitual truancy”.

Late Work: Students are allowed a minimum of two days for every day absent to make up missed work or make other arrangements. Remember my purpose is to provide opportunities to help your child to be successful.

Kinds of Classwork

1. Assigned Projects- You will receive a grade for your weekly sketchbook assignments (theme sketches, thumbnails, rough layouts, storyboards), all preliminary design work and research, comprehensives (comps), class critiques and guest speaker presentations. Each step of your project is given an evaluation that reflects technical execution and creative inspiration. 2. Tests and Quizzes- These are given to assure knowledge and understanding of procedures and terminology. 3. Leadership and Community Projects- This component encourages aspiring students to be engaged in activities for student organizations and projects to serve the community. 4. Complete Class Notebook. This is necessary to help with organizational skills, study habits and to provide you with a working reference that may aid you as an artist. 5. Professional Development. This is the component that identifies work ethic procedures that are paramount to students' success in any work situation. Your ability to be in class, just as in work, is a reflection of how you are valued. Even the most talented artists are fired from their jobs if they cannot get to work. This means being on time, being productive with your time on the job, being on the job every day, and if you are unable to make it to work, keeping your employer informed as why this is so, prior to, or during your scheduled time. It is the same for this program. Students earn professional points at the rate of 10 points per class period. Points are taken away on a sliding scale based on the nature of the behavior. See Workplace Competencies Point Procedures for more detail.

6. Portfolio - This is our ultimate goal: to create an organized, presentable body of work that represents you professionally. Your portfolio must contain a cover letter, resume, thank you letter, and 10 different works of art. One of the works will include thumbnail sketches and a rough sketch.

Grading: All activities within Multimedia Graphic Design, specific projects, testing, evaluation and procedures are given a point value. During any grading period a letter grade equivalent is based on a percentage of work/points produced against work/points possible. The grading scale is: A. = 90% - 100% B. = 80% - 89% C. = 70% - 79% D. = 60% - 69% F. = 59% and lower If any portion of a project is LATE, it will be subject to a late grade. (Less 10% for each day your work is late!)

*Students must earn at least a C in order to return for a second semester. *Students must have a B or better to take an advanced class.

Rubric: Level at which you perform a task Advanced (excellent) = Uses good craftsmanship Incorporates evidences of concept development Completed in the allotted time Show a high level of ideas and creativity Completed according to specific directions Proficient (good) = Uses good craftsmanship Completed according to specific directions Completed in the allotted time Approaching Proficient = (fair) Craftsmanship could be improved Not completed within the allotted timeframe Not according to all specific directions In Progress = (poor) Does not use exhibit good craftsmanship Not completed within the allotted timeframe Not according to the specific directions

Reporting grades is done after each nine-week period: semester grades at eighteen weeks. Semester grades are sent to the student's home and home high school for transcript purposes and athletic eligibility.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism is literary theft of another author’s ideas and/or exact words, without giving proper credit to the source in both the text of your essay and on the Works Cited sheet. This rule is true of direct quotes, paraphrases, and summaries. Plagiarism is a serious ethical offense and may be grounds for the student’s failure in this class. Cheating of any kind is forbidden.

Cell Phones and electronic devices should be TURNED OFF while you are in class.
